Our Results
Since our founding in 1989, we have renovated more than 1000 homes and nearly 250 community and nonprofit facilities. Nearly 50,000 volunteers from businesses, labor organizations, congregations and the community have participated in our Rebuilding Day and Home Safety and Independence programs.
2010 Results
Rebuilding Day
- 10 homes renovated
- 18 facilities renovated
- 9 facilities that were either schools or specifically serve youth
- 2 community centers, serving a broad range of population
- 4 facilities that had a greening element
- 1 public mural – the Exclesior Portal
- 29,520 lbs of waste removed or recycled
- 1,400 volunteers engaged, including 157 skilled volunteers

Green Stats
- 3 projects used re-purposed donated cabinetry
- 4 projects reused donated appliances
- 8 sites re-used lumber and 9 sites used other recycled materials
- 13 projects sourced materials from our warehouse
- Lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council was used on 2 projects
- Native Plants for landscaping were planted at 4 project site
- Paints with low or no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) on nearly 100% of our projects
- 700 volunteers signed on-line safety waivers to cut down on paper use
- As always, we partner with Recology to facilitate recycling and green waste composting at all 29 project sites
- This year, we encouraged all volunteers to carpool and use reusable water bottles in place of bottled water
